Dear Dailey

Dear Dailey~
Momma is way behind so we'll just call it a draw and start from here. :) You are 14 months old. Let's see if I can remember all the words you know- Mommy, Mimi, Pops, Gina, Dailey, Dog-Dog, Michi, DoDo and Bubby, Ginny, Fish, Krispies, Shoes, No, Yes, Stinky Feet, __________ (will have to ask Mimi what I am missing)
You can sign- More, Eat, Milk, Drink, Please, Cereal, Mommy, Baby, Sign, Up, All Done, Fish, Bird, Dog, Horse
Big Girl- You finally have your third tooth, a little bit more hair and just zipped from a 3.5 shoe to a 4.5 overnight.
Monkey see Monkey do- The other day I found you holding the handle of a bladeless razor and "Shaving" your leg. I was roaring with laughter, you've MAYBE seen me do this once. How do you put these things together? You can also go up the stairs by yourself and only yesterday did you find a forgotten gate. Unfortunately you also took a tumble and are sporting a little forehead bruise.
Check you out- When playing with my glasses you pointed at your eyes. So making conversation I said "Those are for Mommy's eyes, where are Daileyanne's eyes?" You pointed right at yours. ::Beam with pride:: How smart you are! So I ask "Where is Dailey's head?" again you pointed right at it. ::Whoo Hoo!:: Then nose, belly, mouth, teeth and feet. All found with no guiding and a big grin ::Swoon:: You my child, are a genius.
Everything in it's place- You still have a thing for sorting and lining things up. Right now on the sidewalk is 11 acorns all in a row. Every time I walk past them I smile. :)
Chores to be done- In the evening you ask to "Eat Dog-Dog". Mimi opens the dog food bucket, helps you fill your cup and you chat to the puppies as you walk it determinedly to the dog bowl. Sometimes you get distracted (once you filled a stray suitcase with kibble) or spill a few along the way but 20 pieces at a time they get fed! It's hysterical and we love you for it.
Games- We still play a fair amount of "Stinky Shoes" and you like to hand over your baby doll for a kiss. (I hope I always remember your request by "Mmmmm Ma" sounds). You ride Virgina and can get off and on your rocking horse with no help. The pantry is your FAVORITE place to play and the cans are constantly being rearranged.
I love you babycakes and love every day I spend with you! Can't wait for Daddee to come home for his RnR so he can see you in action. TWO MONTHS! :D
Kisses~
Momma

It's like 365 Chirstmas Mornings

Dear Dailey,
You are one year old. ONE YEAR.... Whew... Where did it go? But in the same breath I want to ask if you just haven't always been part of our lives. This afternoon I went back and read my first few entries in this blog and was rushed by all those sweet memories of a tiny little baby and our first week together. My heart gets a regular workout with all the swelling it does but I put it through the rounds recapping the last year. How blessed are we little girl to have you in our lives.

So 1. What's new for you? You have completely mastered walking and though I miss seeing your Mowgli crawl you figured it out in about a week and never looked back. Your personality is popping out and forming up strong. You don't like to be dirty- first birthday cake you screamed while all the other Sweetpea babies dug in, second cake for your birthday pictures you sat daintily but refused to dig in. Even your Birthday Ice Cream melted off before we could convince you to attack it! Unsure of where you got it but you are also super tidy. Everything in a place and everything has it's place. (May this continue way into your teen years!) You talk non-stop and fill in all the gaps with sign language.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays you go to a Mother's Day Out program. They phased you up into the toddler class (the baby by 4 months!) and it sounds like you spend a fair amount of time suckering Ms Amanda into picking you up and letting you chimpanzee most of the afternoon. When I pick you up at 2 I always find you completely knocked out and sprawled across your nap mat. It is BEYOND adorable and my favorite part of the day. You and I still snuggle together at night and I'll miss it when you decide to phase out of cosleeping.

I've been so bad about updating your blog recently and I'm sorry little gal. But our life is just SO full of activities, laughter, smiles, hugs, kisses and precious moments that sitting in front of a computer doesn't always win out. I hate to say but I don't want to loose one second of one moment with the real life version of you. Being a Momma is just the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.
Thanks little Bird. :X

8 months

Dear Daileyanne,
You are eight months old now. EIGHT MONTHS! Our friends are getting ready to bring their triplets home and it's made me dip into my memories of our own teeny little baby. How could you have ever been that tiny? How will I ever cope when I turn around to find the face of a 5 year old/16 year old/25 year old looking back at me?!
The corner to independence is just around the bend. You've found that if bored in this room you can just go to another room. I blink and you're gone, cruising on to your next adventure! After all there is bookcases that need emptying, cupboards that need rearranging and scraps of fabric that need eating. Yesterday I looked up and found you with a length of black string dangling from the side of your mouth. You looked like a happy happy cat that had eaten a mouse. (I laughed really hard at that one)
So lets see.. what's new? The crawling for sure. And the standing up. We have a footstool that rolls and you find it so frustrating when just as you are almost pulled up it scoots out and dumps you on your bottom. You are tall enough to get into the bottom of your toy bucket and aren't happy till all of your toys are out. A week or two ago we went to the park and you sat in the grass. It was wonderful to watch as you figured out your depth perception. The blades of grass were touching your hand before you expected to come in contact with the ground. Over and over you tested it going a little lower each time till you were able to retrieve your dropped cookie (Yes, I let you eat cookies off the ground). The furrows between your eyebrows melted into the biggest grin and you washed the cookie down with a few pieces of grass. (Yes, I let you eat grass)

You chubby thighs are starting to melt from all your crawling. Your hair is bright red in the sun. You've gotten your first sunburn and it faded into your first suntan. (Momma's skin there!) I found a new birthmark next to your right eye this week. You love avocados and chicken. We somehow skipped baby food and you eat tidbits off our plates like a baby bird. Your little fingers can deliver everything safely to your mouth or deliver the fiercest of pinches. You miss your dogs who are waiting for us in Texas. You whip your head around and make tracks for your Daddee when you hear the front door open. You still sleep with us. You can say "Dad" "DaaayEEE", "Daay-E-nnn" and "Mamma". You can wave bye-bye.
You hold my heart.

Love you always and forever....

Momma

6 Months

Hey baby,
I'll need to call you that as often as I can just to remind me how quickly you are zooming through your babyhood! Favorite memory this month- Your Mimi and I were taking you on a plane ride to TX and you were as active as can be. All afternoon you'd been belly laughing through games of peek-a-boo and flirting with the flight attendants. On the second flight you were laying across my lap on your belly and peeked back at Mimi with a huge grin and intention in your eyes. You buried your face.. then popped back up! You were playing peek-a-boo! Over and Over (and Over!) we played. You played with the Steward, You played with your Pops, You played with the Ladies with knitting- You were the Peekaboo champ of Southeast Texas! How fun it is to see you process things and act on them. :)
A sweet result of peekaboo is you've started burying your face in my shoulder. My heart crept up into my throat the first time your sleepy face nuzzled into my neck and your small fists clung a little tighter to my shirt. A close match for the first time you smiled at me kiddo!
Daddee has been on a trip this whole month, it's broken his heart to miss out on so much and you two have spent lots of time on the phone telling secret stories that Momma's not invited to hear. You and I did get to spend lots of time with Mimi. First at our house then we joined Pops, Uncle Marty and GinaGreat in Houston. You were so great with all of them and quickly figured out who they were and that you L-O-V-E-D them. It's been a few years since Pops was greeted with such child adoration when he came home from work! At the end of Daddee's trip he met up with us in Texas and ZING went our heartstrings! You looked at him..thought about it...and beamed! We could actually see you go "Hmmm..hey I know you....your DADDEE! (Technically you were baptised at six months and one day so we'll add that to next months note!)

Other cool things you did this month- Went to knitting club(s), flew to Texas, was babysat by your Uncle Marty, met the Belz family, won over a 100 people, went to the Rodeo, pet a Lama, grew a teeny bit more hair, had a playdate at a kiddie gym, became steady with your sitting, figured out that dogs come running when you throw food on the floor, went swimming in an outdoor pool, played toy soup (toys in the bowl, out of the bowl, in the bowl), learned to cough (thanks Mimi!) and won your momma's heart all over again.

I Heart You,

M

5 months

Dear Daileyanne~
Can I have a favorite month already? (Or again?) Because my little girl this would be it! You have become SO interactive! You love your dogs, poor things have been very tolerant of your tugs. Once you are mobile they are in trouble! It's so sweet to watch you in the mornings with them. Virgina scoots as close as she can and with your eyes still closed you reach out and wiggle your fingers through her fur. If Dakota so much as looks at you, you'll laugh out loud and Michigan has had your exploring fingers in her ears more then once. Ah Puppy love!
Daddee has been gone for two weeks and it's just been you and me. He misses you like crazy and you miss him back. You've always been really good with being passed around but after the first week you decided you were NOT okay with strangers. I'm sure it's from spending 24 hrs a day with Momma and not having a 5:30 pass off. Poor kiddo! (Mimi comes to town tomorrow to give you a break) In the meantime you have developed a love for the telephone. Twice a day you talk to Daddee and every other phone call you try to get in on the action. One hand goes to the phone and the other pinches my lips. A very clear "Your turn is over"!
On or off the phone you love to talk and sing. We've been watching American Idol and you sing, sing, SING along with the contestants. More then once your Pops has called and chuckled at you in the background. We've let you have a few bits of food in the last three weeks. Bananas, Avocados and Egg Yolk score pretty high with you. If we try baby food or cereal you end up wearing more then you eat. If you're gonna be picky I'm glad you lean towards the healthier items! (As I type this you are determindly licking a limp piece of asparagus that you snagged off my dinner plate. Heehee) At your five month appointment you weighed 16.9 pounds, signed "Milk" to the very impressed doctor and got your next round of shots which you hated. You are almost out of your Med. cloth diapers and can sit up for a few minutes at a time before you melt onto your elbows. You have finally found your feet and favor your left one over your right. If determined enough you can scoot forward a few inches. You still adore string and ribbon and have added lock of hair to that list. (Ouch!) When you nurse you work your fingers on my shirt or pat me sweetly. Daddee calls you "Bugs" and I've been calling you "Lumpty Loo".
My favorite memory of the month- We were taking a nap earlier this week. After 15 minutes your eyelids started to flutter. I thought I could fake you out by closing my eyes and get you to sleep a little more. NOPE! You took your teeny fingers and poked them into my eyes! I thought it was a fluke so I closed my eyes again. NOPE! You stabbed me again and grinned your silly gummy grin with a very well stated "Momma, I am awake. You should have open eyes so you can look at me! I will help you!"
I love you little bird and I love becoming your friend. Thanks for five months worth of smiles, giggles, hugs, open mouth kisses, snuggles, songs and stories!
Hugs~ Momma

Dear Dailey

Dear Dailey-
A few days ago I started to compose you a letter for this Inauguration Day but have since found this letter President Obama wrote to his own little girls.
It took my breath away.
So little Daileyanne, Tonight I say a prayer for you and the future we creating for you. You ARE the greatest joy in our lives and we want so much for you. Hitch your wagon to something big and live your life the best you can. We love you so much.
M & D

Dear Malia and Sasha,

I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't have let you have.
But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.

When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want.

But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore.

I soon found that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours.
And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.

I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential--schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them.

I want them to have the chance to go to college--even if their parents aren't rich.

And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.

I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you'll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other.

Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country-but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe. And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free-that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility.

That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should mean something.

She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better--and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.

I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you've had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much-although you do have that obligation.
But because you have an obligation to yourself.
Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential.

These are the things I want for you--to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure.

I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.

Love, Dad

You attentively watching the Swearing In Ceremony

Four Months

(Delayed due to our Texas adventure!)

Dear Daileyanne,
Month three was so full of milestones, where do I begin? You have become such a big girl! We'll break this down by senses
Touch- You can grab so well now
Sight- Peek-a-boo cracks you up! If we hide our face for a moment too long you get distracted but the right pace gets the best responces from you. Big baby belly laughs and gummy grins- too fantastic.
Taste- Man are you ready to eat! We've let you lick somethings off our fingers

(Guess you've also become distracting... this letter never quite got finished!)

3 Months

Dear Dailey~
A few days ago (sorry for the delay but we were on vacation) you turned three months old. I don't think I'll ever review a month were I don't want to type "You amaze me" because every day you grow you amaze me more and more! In the last 30 some days you have- Figured out how to drive your arms and feet, gone on your first plane ride and vacation, dipped your feet in the Pacific Ocean, gone swimming in a big pool, learned to almost stand with just the support of Daddy's fingers, had your first Thanksgiving, had your first taste of food (pineapple icecream- Mommy caved in to Dad's persistance)and have grown in leaps and bounds.
Some of my favorite memories are-
While in Hawaii I heard soft sucking noises coming from your car seat. When I peeked you had the hem of your blanket in your mouth and were sucking on it. You gave me the BIGGEST gummy grin and stuck it right back in your mouth please as punch with yourself. Aunt Jen sent you this blankie and I love that this memory is tied to it. :)
You were given a teddy bear wearing a hula skirt as a Welcome to Hawaii present from our friends Phillip and Rebecca. The plastic grass on the skirt allows you to wind your fingers into it and pick up the bear. Right away you were wailing Hula Bear around and bringing her up to your mouth for a little exploration. You hadn't shown any interest in interacting with anything before, no real reaching or holding, and suddenly you are not only holding but holding and guideing and nibbling! Quite a leap little lady!
A few weeks ago when we were seeing Uncle Peter off we stayed in Boise with Mimi and Gina Great. You were miserable from being the the car so we rushed you in to the room and I fed you. But maaaaybe I didn't give you enough time to calm down! You threw up on me and I was shocked that it made it 12 inches. Then over Mimi's shoulder as she went for a towel you vomited again, no kidding it went four feet this time! It still makes me laugh to recall the trail of curdled milk from the hotel wall to your shocked face! As a new mom I hadn't realized your tiny body had the force in it to get that far.
Laughing, I'll never stop loving hearing you laugh. May it always be as pure as it has been this month, Darling.
I love you little girl and will never ever stop! ~ Momma

Two Months Along

Dear Dailey~

Today you are two months old! Everyone told me to enjoy this time with you because kids grow up so fast but I would have never have believed how fast you really would. Oh and GROW you did! You have the cutest thighs- they are these huge meaty things but because you have so little muscle tone they are so soft and supple. You have an extra chin, a crease around your wrist, round cheeks that I love to nibble, dimples in your elbows, your fingers and your knees. They are so sweet!

You love hanging out with Dad in your front carry pack, as I type this you are helping him do a puzzle and sqawking. Your legs are getting stronger and you dance when your feet are braced against my legs. You now have more control over your smiles and no longer do your little one sided "stroke smiles". I miss them. But you do reward me with dozens of smiles a day which helps a little. Sometimes you add a laugh hiccup in as well! All your red hair fell out (Aww) and has come back as a dark brown. Your eyes are still blue grey but there is a caramel colored ring around your pupils. You sleep with your left arm thrown above your head and your right one out straight. At night you start in the middle of the bed and somehow manage to scoot all the way over to press up against me. When we are both laying on our sides and your feet are bare you walk your toes up my stomach. You also sleep through the entire night now- Way to go you! Diaper changes and clothing exchanges are much smoother now, there's no more crying and you like to hang out on the table. The ceiling must be interesting in there. :) You are not phased by being passed around among all your grown up friends. Your eyes can now follow people walk around and you looooove staring at Bug who hangs from your car seat handle. When Uncle Peter, Dad or I talk you'll try to find us in a room. It does take a handful of head tosses to figure out you want to look straight forward which is pretty funny to watch. You can almost drive your arms but have a tendecy to throw them about to quickly and it startles you each time. Finally- You have almost almost figured out how to seperate your thumb from your fist and insert it in your mouth.

You make my laugh little girl and I love you so very much!

One Month down

Dear Dailey~
Today you are one month old. Here are a list of some things that are new... You've learned how to hold your head up with minimal wobble. You can follow Mom with your eyes as long as she moves slowly. Baths are in the big tub with Mom. You love to float and like to use her belly to push off like a little frog. Today at Breastfeeding Brunch you weighed in at 9 pounds 2 ounces. You've just discovered the bug that hangs from your car seat. When you are hungry you suck on the back of your hand. Daddy has given you your first and second bottle. The baby sling is your favorite cacoon and Daddy wears you everywhere in it. Every night you two fall asleep watching West Wing. We co-sleep so you're nearby and neither of us can bare to hear you wimper in your bassinet. You wake up at midnight, 2:30, 4:30, 7 (when Daddy is noisy getting ready for work) and 9:30. It takes you 30 minutes to wake up and you make the BEST faces while you drift in and out. You have moved on from little mews to squawking- you seem to like the sound of your own voice. The car knocks you out, but then it does take at least 45 minutes to get anywhere! Dad has almost run out people to show you off too, the dry cleaning ladies think you are gorgeous by the way. Uncle Peter is great at calming you down, he knows more songs then anyone. You have almost found your fingers. Sometimes when sleeping you giggle at yourself and give a half smile- We think you're really just tooting. When changing your diaper we turn on your mobile and you no longer cry. Every couple of changes when the air hits you, you pee all over the changing table. You still have blue eyes and your hair show signs of being curly. Mom chews your fingernails off and it creeps Dad out. You still wear Newborn sized diapers. Some of the hats that Mimi knit not only no longer fit but look super small now. Socks won't stay on your feet for all the elastic available. When Dad snores too loud you startle and fling your hands above your head. Mommy love you tons and tons and tons... she can't even remember a time when you weren't around!
